Creating a Cosier Space for a Happier Mind

Have you ever considered making your bedroom cosier and more inviting but don’t know how to start? We have some tips that will help you achieve this because having a cosy room doesn’t just work for the aesthetics, but it can also benefit your mood and reduce stress.

Why is it Important to Have a Cosy Room?

Having a cosy room is beneficial for your mood as your brain is constantly observing your environment. Having a space that is warm and appealing can help to lift your mood and make you feel more relaxed. If your space is cluttered and overwhelming, your mood will often reflect that as well. Even just having a cosy corner in your room can help your mindset.

How to Make a Room Feel Cosy?

A cosy room is truly what you make it and what feels cosy to you. Having an aesthetic cosy room for lots of people consists of warm lighting, soft furnishings and an inviting environment. Setting the mood in your room is ultimately down to the warmth, colours and textures in your room. If your walls are painted in a stark white, along with white furniture, bedding and decor, it is unlikely that you will feel a warm atmosphere in the room.

Whereas, introducing warm colours to the room will help it feel cosier. For example, I have one wall painted a navy blue in my bedroom and it really brings a comforting atmosphere in the evenings, without it looking too dark in the day. In terms of textures, soft decor like cushions and blankets will make the environment warmer. Even down to the texture of your furniture can make a difference. I have a navy brushed velvet headboard. This texture contract with the painted wall really makes the room feel cosier.

Important features of a cosy room are:

  • Warm lamps

  • Fairy lights

  • Soft decorative cushions

  • Fleecy throws

  • Candles or wax melts

Just having these little items will make such a difference to the warmness of your room.

If you share a bedroom or have limited space to adapt, a cosy corner is always an option. A corner in your room with a chair, a beanbag or some floor cushions can create a perfect space to get cosy. Having a lamp or a reading light in this area can help create a relaxing atmosphere as well. Another option is to create this cosy corner on your bed with a collection of comfortable pillows or throws. Even without having a whole room to build on, a small cosy space can help relax during your evening routine.

Another way that you can make your space feel cosier is by adding your own personal touches. For example, items like family pictures or trinkets that carry meaning for you, can bring you a warm feeling when you see them.

As a result, having these little pockets of warmth in your space can really create a cosy atmosphere in your space. This tip will make you feel truly at home by including little pieces of yourself and the things and people that you love most. Including things that are individual to your personality is also a great idea too!

However, creating a cosy space isn’t defined by how much you spend, it depends on the atmosphere that you create for your room. In other words, you don’t need a full bedroom makeover to make it cosy!

Keeping your room visually calming with less clutter is a great start to making your room feel inviting. Even something as simple as changing the light bulbs in your lamps from white to warm can truly make such a difference to the atmosphere of your space. You can use cushions or throws that you already have to create a cosy corner of your room or add pictures to frames and personal items that are out on display in your space.

Having a space that is warm and inviting and individually yours can be such a great place to come home to at the end of the day and be a great mood booster. We hope that you feel encouraged to find the time and the personal items around the house to make the space that you deserve. Make your space one that keeps you at ease and gives you a warm, cosy feeling!
