Dressed in Reference: The Stories Behind Lili Reinhart’s Press Tour Looks

In case you haven’t already seen it flooding your social media pages, American actress and Personal Day Skincare brand founder, Lili Reinhart has recently been paying homage to rom-com films. Her press tour for the new rom-com, adapted from Ali Hazelwood’s popular book, The Love Hypothesis, has just wrapped. During this press tour she dedicated her red carpet and tour looks to some of the iconic rom-coms of the past. Together, with her incredible stylist, Ib Adbel Nasser, they have recreated looks from films that are recognised all over the world.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

One of the most recognisable and iconic looks that they recreated is Andie Anderson’s yellow dress look. Reinhart wore the classic, silk, butter yellow gown as an introduction to her continuation of homages. The dress has a low cut back with a cross fabric detailing. In true authentic fashion, Lili also had her hair styled in a low bun in symmetry with the film.

Ever After: A Cinderella Story

Drew Barrymore’s character in Ever After: A Cinderella Story is a classic example of a leading lady in rom-coms. Reinhart’s desire to recreate this look affirms that. Her gown for this look was absolutely stunning and took inspiration from the older, more vintage rom-com looks. The dress consists of a light blue gown, with a silver applique overlay that trails behind. In a twist to the look, Lili had her hair styled beautifully in a long braid. Whereas, in the film originally, Barrymore’s hair was styled in a milkmaid-style braid on top of her head. I loved this twist as it paid respect to the original whilst also enabling Reinhart to make it her own.

Atonement

The dress for this look was custom made for Lili and it truly fit her like a glove. The deep, earthy green dress with a low back and spaghetti straps. The colour of the dress is beautiful and matches her eyes. The detailing on the front of the dress is gorgeous. It has a dropped waist that is almost a wrap-around style. From the waist down, the ruched fabric drops beautifully and ends at different lengths. There are multiple knot details on the dress that have fabric drop from them. Her hair is styled in an updo that allows her hair to fall and frame her face in curls, with a silver detailed hair clip on the side.

13 Going on 30

One of my favourite rom-coms of all time! And they definitely did it justice. There are multiple unforgettable moments from that movie, but one that always seems to stick out to viewers is when Jennifer Garner’s character, Jenna Rink, has to dress herself for work for the first time after becoming 30. Reinhart’s look for her homage to this film is the classic nightgown with the polkadot trench coat over the top. It is such an iconic look and Lili really did it well. The outfit was paired with some silver, open toed shoes and slim black sunglasses. The look was so easily recognisable to fans of 13 Going on 30 and it was beautifully executed.

Miss Congeniality

In my opinion, this is one of the best looks of her entire press tour. In alignment with the rest of her looks, her Miss Congeniality homage was easily recognisable. Her look was even acknowledged by Sandra Bullock herself, who loved the homage. Lili’s look consisted of a bodycon lavender purple dress with a halterneck strap. The dress has wide ribbed detail which accentuates her body shape so well. The shoes that were paired with this look were some strapped heels that matched the colour of the dress perfectly. She also wore a pair of light brown almost-transparent sunglasses.

Uptown Girls

Another homage that definitely got people’s attention is Reinhart’s recreation of Brittany Murphy’s iconic look in Uptown Girls. This was probably one of her most talked about looks because Lili’s appearance is consistently compared to Brittany’s - and it truly is uncanny. For this look, Reinhart wore a nude, deep scoop neck gown with floral details. The light pink and green flowers on the dress are beautiful and the green really brings out the colour in her eyes. The shoes that her stylist paired with this look were nude open toed heels with a flower detail on the front. Her hair was styled in a similar way to Murphy’s in the film. She had a side part with the smaller section of hair clipped back against her head. The only difference in the way that her hair was styled was that she did not have the flower hair accessory like the film. However, I really loved this twist on the look as it really centred the dress as the main event of the look without distraction.

I think that it is fair to say that this is one of the most unprecedented press tour runs that I have seen. The looks that she has presented over the last few weeks were iconic and recognisable to rom-com fans. The homage to leading ladies in the genre was an incredible way to honour the women that came before her in romantic comedies.
